Special Grants

Purpose:

In addition to its competitive grant opportunities, MRHD provides funding through several special grant programs designed to support education, respond to community needs, and provide flexibility for unique or unforeseen circumstances.

Unlike MRHD's competitive grant programs, these programs do not follow MRHD's standard application and competitive review process. Funding availability, eligibility, and selection or review processes vary by program.

Scholarship Grants

MRHD's Scholarship Grant Program expands access to higher education by providing funding for tuition and fees for eligible students from Woodbury County, Iowa, and Dakota County, Nebraska.

Participating organizations are responsible for identifying eligible scholarship recipients and administering scholarship funds in accordance with MRHD's Scholarship Grant Procedures.

Scholarship Grants are awarded annually by the MRHD Board of Directors to participating organizations and are not offered through a competitive application process.

Emergency Grants

MRHD's Emergency Grant Program provides funding to help address public health emergencies, natural disasters, and other unanticipated community needs or challenges.

Emergency Grants do not have a regular application period or funding cycle and may be awarded at such times and in such amounts as determined by MRHD.

Eligible recipients include Educational Entities, Local Governments, and Tax-Exempt Organizations within MRHD's geographic funding area.

Holiday Grants

MRHD's Holiday Grant Program provides annual discretionary funding to support eligible organizations throughout its geographic funding area. Holiday Grant funds may be used in a manner consistent with the recipient organization's mission, including internal costs and operating expenses. Award amounts are determined annually by the Board of Directors, and no matching funds are required.

Holiday Grants are not offered through an application process. Organizations are nominated by individual MRHD Board members, with nominations reviewed by the Holiday Grant Review Committee. To preserve the integrity of the nomination process, organizations should not contact or solicit MRHD Board members for a Holiday Grant nomination.

Discretionary Grants

MRHD's Discretionary Grant Program provides flexibility to respond, on rare occasions, to unanticipated opportunities or community funding needs that arise outside of MRHD's normal grant cycles. Discretionary Grants are not intended to serve as a substitute for another MRHD grant program or to circumvent the requirements of MRHD's established grant procedures.

Discretionary Grants do not have a regular application period or funding cycle. Awards may be made at such times and in such amounts as determined by MRHD.
